Family Care Project:

The Cornerstone Project of the Foundation’s work in Romania. Sponsoring a Family to be assisted through this project can be a ‘life or death’ decision for them.

The Smile’s ‘Family Care Project’ supports up to 200 families living in very poor or difficult circumstances. Under the caring supervision and management of 5 qualified Social Workers – families in special need have both Smiles and a Sponsor as their Special Friend.

Each month, the family receives a visit by the Smiles Social Worker who delivers a vital box of food which literally helps the family survive month to month. At the same time, the Social Worker will consult with the family on their special needs and see how we can help further. The Social Worker will assist with legal paperwork to ensure the family receive any state benefit due and where possible, assistance with obtaining employment. The Social Worker will also monitor the family as to how they are responding to the assistance already given.

The basic family support is £20/$30 per month. Sponsors are given a specific family, pictured certificate with family details.

Larger families need extra help or sponsors can be doubled up to meet the extra needs of these families. A sponsor can also make additional gifts for additional needs their family may have.
