Tileagd Community Church
& Outreach Update

October 2009

Earlier this year, around Easter time, was the last update for the work at Tileagd Community Church and the various outreach programmes Smiles operate there. Since then, lots of things have changed. Personnel … programmes … even those attending, but God hasn’t changed … He is still transforming lots of lives!

Our prayer has always been for the people from the Gypsy Community to get to know Jesus as their personal Saviour…..but as is so often the case in our prayers, we confess to not always having complete faith that we will see our prayers answered!

We are so delighted and thankful to God that now, more than 3 years since the Church started, we are thrilled to see people from the community coming to church, people we never imagined and almost gave up inviting them to come in order not to be refused!! Do you ever feel that way where you are?

The Tileagd Ministry Team is doing a great job and our God is blessing the work there beyond our wildest dreams. All the lessons that are taught are having the same message “We need a personal relationship with God”!

Dana and Maria, Adi and Marian through the Wednesday clubs including “Angels Club” and “Princess Club” reaches more than 35 kids, sometimes up to 40! Games, fun, story time, lots of activities all brings the same message: “We need a personal relationship with God”.

Pastor Ilie, and Brother Titus (the newest employee of the Ministry Team) are involved with the more pastoral side of family visits and counselling. This is crucially important in Tileagd as there are many needs and difficult cultural and historical matters to overcome and pray through for the people to even begin to understand what a personal relationship with God means.  During September, Titus requested the opportunity to attend a conference in Bucharest. A teaching extravaganza with guests from America with a particular emphasis on Roma (Gypsy) spiritual development from within their culture.

We offered Guiry and Basti the opportunity to go also which they were delighted to do. This was a great opportunity for them to go to Bucharest and to be a part of a conference where they spend time in prayer, bible study and getting together with new friends that had the same passion for God’s word! After the week finished they came back to the community and shared with us in the Church service what God did in their lives! We were amazed and overwhelmed to hear their story! They shared all their experiences from the week in Bucharest.

Here some extracts from the testimonies:

Guiry said I never imagined that there are people that share the same ideas and passion as we do. I learned a lot of things. I learned how to come and pray, study the Bible, and share the word to others that do not know God. I came home with the desire to share the story with my brothers and sisters, all my cousins, my children and grandchildren, and my mother! I dream for the day when they all give their life to God and together we will be a new family in God. I also dream that next year this conference could be held in our church and our community! I found new friends from Romania and America and can’t wait to see them all again…(our conference teacher promised me he will come to see a concert in the USA with our kids, and I can’t wait for it!!)

Of course, Guiry was baptised last year and has moved on tremendously but what would Basti’s story be? Again, we were happy to hear it, as we all pray for Basti to take the step for Believers Baptism as well! He is on the right path, and God is blessing his effort and commitment!

Basti told us: “I saw people praying for every single item they need……small things…big things….and God answered their prayers, even while we were there praying!! I saw people that were happy … but not happy because they are rich with nice things and have money … happy because they have God.!! I’ve learned to be content with what I have and be happy with what I have…..You should do the same!! I want my whole family to know this happiness and come to God!

We could continue with the story and news from the Tileagd Community Church, but another thought comes to mind. How about we stop at this point and we ask you to pray for each of them…
  • Guiry and Basti - for the Holy Spirit to continue working in their lives from the experiences in Bucharest.
  • For each member of their families.
  • For each person in the village.
  • For each person attending the church and Bible study/Prayer meetings in the week.
  • And finally, that Satan, who is trying to destroy the work we do by offering people “short moments of glory”, will be bound and ineffective by the Power of God.
Continuing … Just this past Sunday, Guiry and Basti came in the front and sang a song based on the bible verse that is in Romans 11 verse 36 “ For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever! Amen.” Pastor Ilie then came to the front and explained the meaning of the verse and we all sang with a passion that was never experience before!

When was the last time we sang a song with passion, and really meant it? So often we just sing the words and don t really take much notice of the meaning.

The Tileagd guitar class! When was the last time we did a “check list ” for our life and acknowledged that it is from God we are blessed with all the things we have….a home, a job, a family, our friends….EVERYTHING is THROUGH God and we managed to have all of them as well as health and power to achieve it! This is what we try to share with all those attending Tileagd Community Church as they continue to grow in their “Personal relationship with God”.

Thank you for your prayers and support to continue the work. If you would like to continue, or even start – please do. If you would like to talk to any of us, feel free to write to us.

God bless you all,
