REPORTS FROM THE FIELD
Sarah Urwin
- Children's Outreach Ministry
May
2006:
Through my responsibility
for children’s outreach projects such as
Holiday Bible Club,
I have had the wonderful privilege of seeing
first
hand what an amazing opportunity this is for sharing the gospel. In
the isolated villages that we visit, the children are bored during the
long summer months, and eager to attend any event which offers fun
activities. Because of this, we generally have every child from a
village attending, and they are so excited at the prospect of puppets,
craft activities, drama and the other exciting ways
we find to share the gospel.
Last year I spoke to a local pastor who stood amazed looking at the
100+ children gathered in a local field. He turned to me and said “I’ve never
seen anything like this before. Every child in the village is here –
the Baptists and Pentecostals – but also the Orthodox children, and
even the children who never go to church at all.”
Please pray for the children that we will be in contact with during
the summer months, and
that we will be able to clearly share the message of Christ with them.
With one small, very poor
village called
Sumugiu, we have been able to start
a weekly meeting called “Smiles
Club.”
We are sharing the gospel through song, drama, puppets, bible stories,
memory verses, activities, and
our own fellowship with the children. I saw that though
the Holiday Bible
School is great, there is no way for the children to grow in their
knowledge of Christ once we leave. Church Sunday schools are often
boring (if not non-existent).
In the village of Sumugiu we have just completed an introductory four
week program about who Jesus is,
and what he has done for us, and now we are moving on to a 10 week
program on the 10
commandments. It is wonderful to be able to build relationships
with the children. They are excited and enthusiastic – and hardly able
to believe that we are going to continue coming every week. They love
the games, activities and competitions.
Please pray for these children, and that they will come to know the
Lord Jesus as their friend and saviour, and then be able to grow in
their faith. We
are trying to teach the gospel in as exciting a way as possible, but
though we are developing a fun program, it is with a very serious, and
life changing message.
We want to bring these
children fun and friendship, but most of all we want to bring them the
Lord.
