REPORTS FROM THE FIELD
Sarah Urwin - Family Program
& Mission Trips
February 2006:
My main area of work is with mission trips, but when (as now) we have
no visiting teams of British and American volunteers, I am privileged
to be able to spend time with our social workers on family visits.
I am finding
our team of social workers a constant inspiration to me.
They are
kind, patient, and loving, in the face of even the most difficult and
demanding families. Families see their social workers as a good friend
and the help that they bring as a blessing from God. This week I heard
one woman tell us “without your help we couldn’t continue. Praise
God.” The most exciting part of her statement for me was the fact that
she allocated the reason for her blessings to the Lord. This is what
we are constantly trying to do; to share the Lord with the families we
help. A couple of weeks ago I had an old lady ask me “how can I
repent and be saved?” We shared with her the forgiveness of
Christ; she struggled to believe that Jesus could really forgive her
for all the sins that she had committed in her lifetime, but with the
realisation that He could, her face creased into a smile, and we
prayed together for Jesus to enter her heart and be her Saviour and
friend.
Every day that I
am visiting our families I see at least one situation that is
desperate; a dying father, children with a negligent mother, a child
with an incurable disease. We help where we can, and share the
resources that we have – but where there is nothing we can do to help,
or where we don’t have the resources to help, we are still able to
share the most precious thing that we have; our faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ.
As long as we continue to share Him, these families will always have a
hope.
