Dear Friends
Our monthly updates are normally written from Romania, but today, a team of
us have just arrived in Scotland to begin the second leg of the
UK Tour.
Fifteen of us are back on the road, with the Choir
performing better than ever. They have worked hard on their songs, their
English and their dances – with two new dances never seen before on tour.
Having just finished the first week in Northern Ireland, where
Nia joined
the Choir for 3 of the concerts, we are absolutely delighted with the
response. We also received from supporters incredible amounts of
Aid for Romania
which filled
the van and its roof-rack! We hope to collect more in Scotland and England
before 2 van loads is driven across Europe mid-October to restock our
supplies there.
If you are in Scotland or England – Don’t miss the Concerts scheduled over
the next 2 weeks. They really are special! If you want to help us with the
‘Wish-List’
donations,
contact the Leeds office.
Back in Romania – September has been very exciting to see the start of the
new term at Tileagd
Community
School and Nursery. We had an amazing response to the Registration process
this summer, which for the first time we opened up to the entire Tileagd
community. Numbers have increased by 40% with 144 children now enjoying
Grade School, Kindergarten and Nursery.
This is wonderful news and truly the fulfilment of our ‘Dream’ to see
integration between Gypsy, Romanian and Hungarian children. Now it is all
coming together through the Smiles project in Tileagd.
We are under pressure to meet the additional operating costs for so many
extra children and we ask all supporters to see if
sponsoring a child
to attend School is within your means. £35 / $60 a month can change the
world for one special child who wants the opportunity to achieve their
potential through having an education. Please Help!
Phase 2 of the Tileagd Complex
continues to progress well.
Now we have the majority of the Medical Centre and corridors with a roof on.
Roofing the Church and Gymnasium starts next week. Please keep praying for
this amazing project. £520,000 / $1,040,000 has now been raised but we still
need ‘Dreamers’ to see the project finished. 250 more Dreamers actually. 250
more pledges of £1,000 / $2,000 to be given as a gift or to be raised
through support in the next 12 months.
Please contact us if you can Dream Big!
Once the UK Tour finishes, we head back to Romania to begin the next
Mission Trip
from October 20th – November 3rd. A
great number are joining us, 36 currently – the biggest ever October trip
and includes two World Tennis Federation Coaches who specialise in Tennis
coaching for the disabled.
John Noakes from the UK and Taco Nijhoff from Holland will run Tennis Camp
each day for children who have probably never held a tennis racquet in their
life before. Able bodied and disabled children will get this amazing
opportunity during the Mission Trip. We are thankful to the World Tennis
Federation for donating tennis equipment and specially adapted wheelchairs
for the disabled players. Watch for full report next month.
Our final
Mission Trip for 2007
is between December 8th and
21st. If you are interested in joining us for this special
Christmas Trip – contact us now for information. The December trip is when
we distribute Sack of Smiles to the children in our projects. Many of these
children would receive nothing for Christmas unless Smiles, through you, can
purchase the items that fill our sacks. Please help make this a special
Christmas for these special children by sending support for
Sack
of Smiles
to your nearest Smiles office. £30 / $50 per sack.
We thank you for your continued interest and support for the work of Smiles.
There is so much to do and we need your help to see it happen. Please Pray,
Give and Come. One or all three – and we promise you will not only change
the life of someone on Romania, but you could well change your life in the
process – All for the better.
God Bless You!
