June 2007
Dear Friends
Greetings to you all and
thank you for your continued interest and support for the Smiles Foundation.
It is truly remarkable what God is doing through the Foundation and it’s
great for you and ourselves to know that God is using us, each according to
our gifts, ability and means, to impact so many lives with the Love and
Grace He shows for all.
Highlights
Every month we prepare to share with you the news of
just the past 30 days – it amazes us at how much there is to share. We can’t
report everything but we trust these highlights and the more detailed
stories within the web-site will encourage you, inspire you and assure you
of our immense appreciation for your support and confirm for you the real
difference you are making, in the Name of Christ, to many lives in Romania.
Mission Trips
Earlier in May we had our second Mission Trip of the
year and a wonderful time was had by those sharing the experience. With the
arrival of June, our busy season begins with another Trip starting tomorrow
(June 2nd) and another on June 16th and again on June
30th. Summer bookings are now up to 238 people on Smiles Mission
Trips during June, July and August.
Some summer trips are full, but if you want to join us for ‘an experience of
a lifetime’ – call the office or
e-mail us to check availability. There is also plenty of availability
for October, November and December.
Fundraising
The month of May has seen many
fund-raising events
for
Smiles through-out the UK and America. The UK Smiles week-end (May 6th
& 7th) generated lots of fun and support for the Foundation and
we thank everyone who took part and gave time, effort and financial support.
Tileagd Craft Project
This month we are delighted to report some new support
for our Craft Project within the Gypsy Community at Tileagd. The various
Craft items are now being sold by
West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village Museum
and
they are proving very popular indeed. The Museum’s Press Release is on our
News Page and a link to their web-site is on our Links page.
Sea France
We also received great support from Sea France Ferries
this month when we had a huge van load of Humanitarian Aid for Romania. Sea
France Ferries provided the return Dover/Calais crossings free of charge,
allowing crucial supplies for poor families to be delivered plus a 5,000
gallon irrigation tank for the Gepiu Horticultural project. A Press Release
from Sea France is also accessible through our
News Page.
Educational Challenge
A great highlight this month has been hosting the
first ever Smiles Educational Challenge for professional educators to
experience a professional challenge with the Tileagd Community School.
A
full report from the Foundation’s Educational Advisor is on the site, along
with some photos.
It was a wonderful week as you can read. If you are in Education – perhaps
you should be marking
May 25th 2008 on your calendar for you to
join us on our second Educational Challenge!
We had 85% first time visitors to Romania on our Challenge so the
‘History’
of Smiles work with the Gypsy Community and the beginning of the School was
re-written and now available on the web-site. You might enjoy checking it
out!!
In The Smiles Foundation we are always facing and
presenting a Challenge. Now we have a brand new Challenge for you to
consider being a part of.
The Church Challenge
A truly amazing opportunity for you and your Church to
be a part of.
Check it out and Contact us for further details or with any questions you
have and we’ll work with you to make it happen.
Are you Ready?
Phase 2 - Community
Complex
In closing, on this first day of June 2007, we are
thrilled to announce we have just signed contracts for Construction to begin
on Phase 2 of the Community Complex – Gymnasium, Medical Block and Church.
All is due to begin by June 18th.
The first stage of Phase 2 will be Foundations, Steel Structure, Walls and
Roof at a cost of £180,000 / $360,000
As we step out in faith, believing this is the Lord’s Work and that He will
be faithful to complete it and provide all the needs – we ask you – to be
faithful in sharing in the experience and responsibility of fulfilling His
Will.
Please support this project to the best of your ability during the
Construction period of June, July, August & September. If you have any
questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
With Sincere Thanks from us all
