July 2007
Dear Friends
We trust you are enjoying the summer so far.
Here in Romania we are having an amazing time. Wonderful Weather,
Fantastic Fellowship and Beautiful Blessings as we continue to serve God
amongst the poor and needy – sharing His love with so many.
The month of June has truly been amazing. Once again, so much to report and
this update will enable us to share a little but we recommend you work
through the web-site to get all the news and updates on the projects.
Our
Mission Trip season has started in earnest.
Through-out June we’ve had trips with guests from UK and America. 38 more
arrive today (June 30th) and during July we’ll see more than 100 visitors to
the Smiles Mission Centre. 90 of them on Smiles Mission Trips and we will
also be pleased to welcome 12 guests from Indiana who are staying at our
facility whilst working with Poarta Bucurier Foundation.
We’ve added a new page to our
Mission Trip section, sharing
Photo’s & Stories
from
some of the activities the teams have been up to. We will continue to update
this through-out the summer.
It is fantastic to have started work on Phase 2 of the Community Complex.
Such incredible progress has been made this month.
Pictures & Report available on the site.
We have just completed our first full academic year of Tileagd
Community School in the new complex (Phase 1) which was opened September
’06.
Children and staff have done so much better in the new facility and just
‘how well’ was evident at the School Graduation Day on June 13th.
Pictures Paint a Thousand Words!
Tremendous progress and amazing results are in full evidence in
Gepiu with the Horticultural project. Linda, Danute and Olivia are
working very hard with help from ‘Green Fingered’ Mission Trippers. The
fruits of their labours have now been tasted in the Gepiu Children’s Centre
and the Cihei Mission Centre. Beautiful tomatoes, peppers and salad
vegetables. The plan is working and we hope to see the project very
successful this year so we can consider enlarging the project next year
providing more food and more jobs in Gepiu.
More Pictures.
It’s great for Smiles to be working in
positive and professional collaboration arrangements with
Romanian State
Departments. We now enjoy very constructive working relationships with
both Social and Educational departments and tremendous opportunities are
opening up for Smiles through these programmes.
The Tileagd Community School is in collaboration with the State
Education department and as a result, this September we have reached
agreement to provide Grade 5 classes for Roma and Poor communities in and
around Tileagd. We will use our first school facility for these classes.
The Emergency Housing Facility is in collaboration with the Social
Services department and now provides shelter and support to victims of
domestic abuse. This month we have been able to help 3 women and their
children cope with the trauma of domestic abuse.
The Cihei Mission Centre
hosted, on June 23rd a Social &
Educational delegation of 55 students and professors from 12 counties across
Romania to hear our Chief Executive, Kevin Hoy speak for one hour on The
Smiles Foundation’s Social Policy rooted in Biblical principles.
An outstanding success that State Officials said was
the high-light of their Bihor County tour.
Smiles is privileged and excited to be having these opportunities and firmly
believes God is honouring our faithfulness with miraculous progress and
results.
We thank you for your part in this success. June has also been an
incredible month of financial support, with over £50,000 / $100,000 donated
through Mission Trip visitors and special fund-raising efforts. This is over
and above our regular monthly support. We thank you for your Love and
Commitment to this work.
Please don’t stop – there is much more to be done and we’re willing and able
to do it – with God’s Provision and your support we will continue every
month to report the amazing news and stories demonstrated this month. To
God be all the Glory.
God Bless You
With sincere thanks from us all
The Smiles Foundation
