I’m writing this to you from my kitchen table – the
floor is a bit dirty, and could do with a wash, there’s a few dishes in
the sink which should really be washed, and as for the ironing pile… I
just moved it into another room, so it didn’t stare at me for another
hour whilst I sat down to write this! I have a feeling that there’s
going to be quite a lot of juggling, prioritising and being willing to
let a few things ‘go’ over the coming year as I plan to go back on the
road with new songs and new stories. But I really am so looking forward
to it.
Before I was a mum, it was easy to
take off on tour for a couple of months at a time, but now with a 3 ½
and a 1 ½ year old, (let alone a long-suffering husband!)
things are a
little different! So the touring will be limited to selected days and
dates during 2011. All that said, the artistic side of me has really
enjoyed the whole process of writing new songs and I’m heading back into
the recording studio this month to work on a
new album.
I’ve not toured in earnest for over 3 years, which we feel was the right
decision for us as a family whilst the boys were mere babies. I have
kept singing though, leading worship at our home Church almost every
week has been refreshing and inspiring. The Bible tells us to
“Remember our creator in the days of our youth”,
having turned 40 this year, my youthful days are gone…so I find myself
in a new role right now, which is to “remember well” for my boys; to
tell them the stories of God’s goodness…and to somehow imprint it on to
their hearts as the next generation.
The 2011 tour is called
‘Memory Lane’
and as well as looking back at what will, in 2011, be 25 years of ministry
for me – we’ll also take a look at how God is faithful even when we’re
not – of how He’s good, even when we’re bad…and how He loves…because He
IS love. The evenings will include music, thought provoking messages
and laughter - all in equal measure. – the feel of the evening will be
friendly and relaxed – possibly even café style, very easy to invite non
Christians to, and guaranteed to be cringe-free, yet with a clear
message.
It’s
wonderful to be linking up with The Smiles Foundation,
a work so dear to my heart as a co-founder with Kevin Hoy.
When the
Smiles news letters arrive in my Inbox (used to
be on the doormat!), I, like many of you I’m sure, am amazed at what God is
doing. I often think of the verse in Philippians that says
‘He who began a good work in you is faithful to
complete it’…this is His ‘good work’
…and it’s His faithfulness that is accomplishing and ‘completing’ what
His plans are for Smiles…I look forward to taking time in each of the
concerts next year to tell the story of
Smiles.
So, to those of you reading this who are ‘old friends’ of mine (and I
mean that in the kindness way possible!) – I look forward to seeing you
somewhere in the coming year – for those of you who have become friends
of Smiles in more recent years…I look forward to meeting you and hearing
your stories.
See you soon and God Bless.
